Game 2: Rockford 6, Marian 2 Rockford opened the scoring in the first inning when Tyler Magnuson scored Tyler Clay from third on a ground out and Rob Wiest hit an RBI single. The Sabres trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the third inning on an RBI ground out Nick Reschke, before Rockford added another in the fourth with an RBI single by Phil Smith. The Regents tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh as Shaun Dascher singled in Derek Truninger, who had reached on an error and Brandon Smith squirted an RBI single through the left side of the infield. The Sabres put together a threat in the eighth inning when Jake Wilson homered to right to lead off the frame and Nick Reschke followed with a single, but Findlay coaxed the Sabres into two fly balls and a ground out to end the threat. Rockford was led at the plate by Magnuson who went two-for-three with a double and two runs batted in. Findlay pitched a complete game, giving up 10 hits and two earned runs while striking out six. Sabre starter Nick Raddant took the loss surrendering 10 hits and four earned runs. Rockford College (25-17) advances to a 4 p.m. game against Concordia University Chicago, 9-1 winners over top-seeded Benedictine University. Marian University (19-18) will meet Benedictine in a 7:30 p.m. elimination game.
