Benedictine's Abron qualifies for NCAA III track championships in two events
LISLE, Ill. -- Benedictine University senior sprinter Kimyenna Abron (Chicago, Ill./Hyde Park H.S.) has qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in both the women’s 100 and 200 meter races, it has been announced. The 2008 championships take place this coming Thursday-Saturday, May 22-24, at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

In the 100 meter preliminaries – which take place on Thursday evening – Abron will run in the first of three heats. Her qualifying time of 12.03 seconds is the second-fastest in her heat and fourth-fastest time in the field, overall.

On Friday evening, Abron will run in the second of four heats in the 200 meter dash prelims, after qualifying in a time of 24.79 seconds. She is the second-quickest in her heat and eighth-best overall time for the event.

The finals for both races will take place on Saturday. The top eight finishers in both races are considered as NCAA Division III All-Americans.

Abron was also a qualifier in the 55-meter dash at the 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, but did not get past the preliminary race. This is her first – and only – season of collegiate track and field, after playing three seasons of soccer for the Eagles’ program.
