Conference announces women's soccer awards Edgewood College's Ilana Bar-Av (Madison, Wis.) was named Defensive Player of the Year. The sophomore goalkeeper led the NAC in save percentage (.857) and had a 0.58 goals against average. She also recorded four shutouts -- three versus NAC opponents -- for the Eagles (15-4, 11-1 NAC). Sophomore forward Jessica Novickas of Aurora University was named Offensive Player of the Year. Novickas (Highland Park, Ill.) scored 18 goals and tallied 6 assists in 23 games this season for the conference champion Spartans (19-3-1, 12-0). Five of her team-leading 18 goals game winners, all versus conference opponents. Spartan teammate Cait Hartman (Parker, Colo.) was selected as Rookie of the Year. The freshman defender was part of the AU defense that allowed only 0.65 goals per game (0.25 in conference play), and had a conference-leading 13 shutouts this season, nine of which were in conference play. The NAC coaches voted Aurora's Kanute Drugan and MSOE's Rolf Zersen Co-Coaches of the Year. Drugan led the Spartans to a perfect 12-0 mark in the NAC this season on the way to the NAC regular season tournament titles. The Spartans had a school record 19-game win streak ended after losing to the University of Chicago in the NCAA Division III Championship First Round, 1-0, in overtime. Zersen coached the MSOE Raiders to a 7-4-1 conference record (sixth) and a 9-7-3 overall mark. MSOE finished 2-15 in the 2006 season as an independent.
