Northern Athletics
Conference men's soccer awards announced Dominican University's Elvin Perez (Chicago, Ill.) was named Defensive Player of the Year. The senior defender led the Stars' (17-4-1, 9-0-1 NAC) defense to 13 shutouts this season, including 9 versus conference opponents. Concordia University Wisconsin's Brian Nord and Dominican's Matt Kochanowski were named Co-Offensive Players of the Year for the 2007 season. Nord (Oconomowoc, Wis.) led the conference in scoring, averaging 1.5 goals per game for the Falcons (12-7-1, 7-3). The senior forward also tallied seven game winning goals, also a conference best. Kochanowski (Arlington Heights, Ill.) led the NAC in assists (0.86 apg) and averaged 0.59 goals per game. The junior forward also scored four game winning goals for the two-time defending NAC regular season and tournament champions. NAC Rookie of the Year honors went to Dominican's Michael Kapusta (Bartlett, Ill.), a freshman defender. Wisconsin Lutheran College's Joe Luedke and Aurora University's Pete Watkins were voted Co-Coaches of the Year by their peers. Luedke led the Warriors to a fifth place finish in the NAC with a 6-3-1 record (10-9-1 overall), including a trip to the 2007 NAC Men's Soccer Tournament. Watkins coached the Spartans (12-4-5, 8-0-2) to an undefeated conference record, just two points behind a first place mark.
